Workshops

Carl Safina teaching at the HSCThe goal of the Alda Center’s Science Communication Workshops is to help participants learn to communicate more effectively with people outside their field, including the general public, policy makers, the media, students, potential employers or funders, and prospective collaborators in other disciplines. Through discussion and practice, we will focus on fundamental skills — knowing your audience, connecting with your audience, and speaking clearly and conversationally about your work and why it matters.

Our standard workshop options are listed below. Due to the customized nature of our workshops, prices may vary. Once we determine your needs, we will send you a proposal outlining details and costs.

Booking a Workshop

The Alda Center looks forward to working with you. Please allow 6-8 months lead time for booking and planning your workshop.

After filling out the online request form, you will be contacted by an Alda Center representative within 2-4 weeks. Please respond to workshop proposals within 8 weeks to confirm whether or not you want to book a workshop.

The Alda Center and the host institution will work together to collect participant information. We will provide you with workshop agendas, participant groups, exit surveys, Alda Center Instructor Bios, and prepare a workshop portal with tips and background information.

A pre-workshop e-mail will be sent to participants by the Alda Center a few days before your workshop, providing access to the workshop portal as well as thought assignments to help participants prepare.
