We note with sorrow the passing of Fred Kavli, physicist, entrepreneur, and founder and chairman of The Kavli Foundation, who died Nov. 21, 2013 at age 86. The foundation Mr. Kavli established supports 17 research institutes in astrophysics, nanoscience, neuroscience and theoretical physics, as well as conferences, professorships, prizes and other activities around the world. The Kavli Foundation has generously supported the Alda Center, helping us develop new ways to work with scientists, including science leaders who are on the front lines of communicating about research.
